When an airplane flies overhead
…does the world stop for a moment as you search the skies for that beautiful symphony of sound?

We are a family that looks to the sky, searching the heavens for that chorus of propulsion and whistling wings,
a diverse family made up of everything “aviation” from
“Sky-Gazers” to “Skunkworks”.
We are enthusiasts, mechanics, pilots and engineers.
EAA Chapter 40 is where support is found for aviation dreams, big and small.
We will show you that reaching for the sky …is just the beginning.

“Man must rise above the Earth
—to the top of the atmosphere and beyond
—for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.”
– Socrates

We would love for you to join us as we …Look to, Reach for and Take to the Sky together.

Who is EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association)?

How does one describe an EAA member?
That question does not have a definitive answer.

  • EAA members represent every aspect of aviation
    and often have multiple interests.
    We fly them.
    We fix them.
    We even build them.
  • EAA members are what we like to call the “Keepers of the Flame.”
Sure, we love airplanes. But it goes beyond that.
  • It’s about passion, camaraderie, that ol’ can-do spirit, and a grassroots way of sharing our love of aviation with others.
  • It’s the airplanes that bring us together. It’s the people who keep us coming back.

We are…

A community of passionate aviation enthusiasts that promotes and supports recreational flying.

Our vision…

A vibrant and growing aviation community.

Our mission…

To grow participation in aviation by promoting the
“Spirit of Aviation.”

We serve the community by:

  • Inspiring new participants in aviation
  • Inviting the public to experience flight
  • Providing a compelling view of possibilities
  • Nurturing interest in aviation
  • Supporting clear pathways to participation
  • Enriching the participation experience
  • Protecting rights and the freedom to fly
  • Encouraging affordable flying in a local environment
  • Cultivating and providing knowledge, information, and resources
  • Embracing diverse interests, camaraderie, and fun Supporting and promoting aviation events and activities

Providing support for your aircraft project whether it is a restoration, a kit-built aircraft or a plans-built aircraft. In addition to the amazing resources available from EAA headquarters, EAA Chapter 40 is home to Tech Counselors, Flight Advisors and many of our members are various levels of Instructors from Advanced Ground Instructors all the way to Multi-Engine Flight Instructors.
(We do not provide flight training but are a supportive family of aviators willing to support you in your goals.)

EAA Chapter 40 has many programs, and we are expanding in ways that make a real difference in support of the wonderful community of Pacoima, CA, the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles County. We host 2 youth programs. We introduce and inspire an average of 75-100 young aviators each month in our Young Eagles program with free flights in general aviation aircraft. We have a weekly STEM program for high school and early college students teaching them how to build a plane. Currently we have two aircraft under construction in the Youth Build Program.

From Young Eagles flights, our STEM Youth Build Program to Summer Internships, we are committed to making a place where the next generation realizes their full potential.
We are currently supporting and co-sponsoring two “Ray Scholarshps” which provide up to $12,000 for each scholar to pursue their pilot’s license.
